Communications Director for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, has debunked claims that flagbearer of the party, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, will be naming his running mate at today’s Council of Elders meeting.
Speculations had been rife that the NPP flagbearer will be presenting his choice of partners him in 2012 to the Council of Elders of the party for their acceptance or rejection.
Three candidates are in pole position for that enviable spot, but Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who has been at the fore front of the pack is the most favoured option. The other contenders are Deputy Minority Leader Ambrose Dery and Alhaji M. N. D Jawula.
Indications are that the flagbearer might go in for Dr. Bawumia, who was a former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, though the grapevine has it that Bawumia is not the favourite of some top echelons of the party who prefer Alhaji Jawula.
This is because, Alhaji Jawula appeals to the “Zongo community” due to his football background.
Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ Morning Show, the NPPs Communications Director was emphatic that Nana Akufo Addo will not be unveiling his running mate today. According to him, he will rather be informing the Council of Elder of his plans for the election, campaign as well as when he will be naming his running mate.
