..Following Kofi Wayo's Astounding Revelation
NPP flagbearer, Mr. Akufo-Addo, is undergoing detoxification and rehabilitation in the United Kingdom. The Ghanaian Lens can today reveal. It would be recalled that Mr. Akufo-Addo was recently revealed be hooked on illicit drugs. The revelation was made by none other than Mr. Charles Kofi Wayo, a one-time close confidante of most of the high-ups, not excluding Mr. Akufo-Addo.
Mr. Kofi Wayo, otherwise known as Chuck, actually went on to challenge Mr. Akufo-Addo to volunteer to subject himself to medical/laboratory examination to prove that he is not hooked on drugs.
Close confidantes of the NPP flag bearer have indicated to this paper that since Kofi Wayo went public with his revelation that Mr. Akufo-Addo is hooked on illicit drugs the Akufo? Addo camp has not been comfortable with the way the revelation is fast gaining currency with the Ghanaian people.
According to one such Akufo? Addo close confidante, Akufo-Addo has decided to undergo detoxification so as to remove any traces of any residual chemical that could be said to be a by-product of illicit drug use.
"The detoxification is the first step in the preparations to a public acceptance of the challenge thrown by Kofi Wayo, which is being heavily relied on by people in the NDC to taunt Nana," the close confidante stated.
"Personally, I have known Nana for almost a lifetime, and although I cannot claim to be unaware of the vicious rumours that have been doing the rounds over the years that he uses one form of illicit drug or the other, I have personally never seen him using any such drugs. But Kofi Wayo's challenge has taken the issue from the domain of mere whispering campaign to the front burner, and has necessitated that we should confront the issue head-on," the confidante revealed.
Asked if Mr. Akufo-Addo's detoxification requires that he should check into a rehabilitation facility or a medical facility, the confidante replied, "because of Nana's profile as someone who wants to become a President of this country, we cannot afford to have him in any kind of facility because it can lead to speculations."
The confidante explained that, "to avoid needless speculations, we have gotten some of the best specialists in this field to work intensively with Nana privately while he is in the UK."
Asked how long the, detoxification programme is expected to last, the confidante replied, "these things do not have definite time spans.
But it is going to be quite intensive, and we expert that following the expected initial successes, after Nana returns to Ghana, the experts would be coming here periodically to work with him."
Detoxification takes several forms, including use of sauna baths, observing special dietary regimes, use of specially prepared herbal concoctions, physical exercise, fasting etc.
A detoxification program can help the body's natural cleaning process by resting the organs through fasting; stimulating the liver to drive toxins from the body; promoting elimination through the intestines, kidneys and skin; improving circulation of the blood; and refueling the body with healthy nutrients. Investigations by The Ghanaian Lens have established that detoxification is also one of the processes that many experts use in weaning addicts off their drug habits.
Detoxification has come to be accepted as the best and fastest means to rid the human body of residual drugs and toxins, including toxins accumulated from drug use.
Generally, drugs become undetectable in blood and urine relatively soon after the last drug use. In some cases, it takes just about three days for traces of last use to disappear from the blood and urine.
Experts however say that while residual traces of drugs may vanish from the blood and urine, drug residues and toxins almost always remain stored in fatty tissues for several years after last use.
Experts recommend that those seeking to drop their drug habits would have to detoxify themselves so as to get rid of these drug residues and toxins, which, if left unattended to, remains in the body and cause cravings for drugs as well as induce adverse symptoms, including depression.
Significantly, several weeks after Kofi Wayo made the startling revelation about Akufo-Addo's drug use, not a word has been heard from Mr. Akufo-Addo on astounding revelation.
Mr. Akufo-Addo is known to be one who quickly reacts to matters concerning him personally. He is also known to be a person who is not averse to personally call into radio programmes to state his side of the story where he is personally concerned.
It would be recalled that only a few weeks ago, Mr. Akufo-Addo personally called into a radio programme on Joy FM to, as he claimed, set the records straight with regards to statements he was reported to have made, which statement was said to have been one of the immediate causes of the recent bloody clashes in Bawku.
