President Akufo-Addo has appointed the immediate past director-general of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) Kwame Owusu as Board Chairman of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
The June 18, 2019 appointment letter asked Mr. Owusu to acknowledge his acceptance of the post in 14 days.
’Pursuant to section 4 (1) (a) of the Ghana Revenue Authority Act, 2009 (Act 791), the President of the Republic in consultation with the Council of State, has appointed you as chairman of the Governing Board of the Ghana Revenue Authority,” the letter signed by the executive secretary to the President Nana Bediatuo Asante said.
Mr. Owusu was hit with controversy while head of the GMA when it emerged he had allegedly used over GHc66 thousand for kitchen cabinet.
This was after he defended the renovation of his “colonial style” 2-bedroom Cantonments residence at the cost of GHc1 million, despite concerns the amount was too high.
A memo signed by an employee of the Maritime Authority, Rhoda Atiah, revealed that GHC66,835.00 was used to construct high-quality hardwood standard kitchen cabinet complete with drawers, Corian worktop and wall hanging unit including all necessary accessories.
