Akufo-Addo can’t be blamed in Afoko’s suspension – Lecturer

Dr. Bonsu Osei Wusu, a political lecturer at the Methodist University College says under no circumstances should the party’s 2016 Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, be blamed for the suspension of Paul Afoko.

The Danquah-Busia-Dombo Tradition on Friday suspended the National Chairman of the NPP on grounds of misconduct after attempts by the party’s Disciplinary Committee to get him speak to certain charges brought against him proved futile.

Many have fingered the party’s Presidential Candidate for masterminding the suspension of Mr. Afoko after rumours became rife that the National Chairman was working against him.

But Dr. Osei Wusu speaking in an interview with Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Si Me So on Kasapa 102.3 FM said blaming Akufo-Addo for the suspension of Chairman Afoko is farfetched although he concedes that the Presidential Candidate could have shown leadership by helping to resolve the impasse in the party.

“You can’t blame Akufo Addo in this matter because this is the third time he has been a flagbearer. All along, he has been working with different sets of executives, and we never heard issues of this nature. So, it will be very difficult to blame him,” he noted.

According to him, there could be no one to blame other than the bigwigs in the party, believing that the 2016 Presidential Candidate and former President John Agyekum Kufuor could have helped in resolving the impasse in the party.

He also blamed the Council of Elders as well as the National Executives of the party for the current state of the elephant family.

“I have always said from the beginning that the NPP’s biggest problem is their Council of Elders the very moment they took a decision for Afoko to be suspended.”

“I think that the issue should have rather started from the grassroots to the top but here is a case that it started from the top where they took sides. So, even if Afoko has a problem, where should he have gone to?”

“The Chairman and the other executives of the party are also partly to be blamed in this regard.”
