Two-time flagbearer of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo, has not endorsed Paul Afoko, a chairman aspirant of the party, a statement from his office has said.
The statement said: ‘In response to a story in the Friday, April 11, 2014 edition of the Chronicle newspaper with the headline “Afoko is my man, Akufo-Addo declares”, the Office of Nana Akufo-Addo wishes to make it unequivocally clear that the story is false and a fabricated one.’
According to Akufo-Addo’s team, he has “not endorsed the candidature of Paul Afoko ahead of tomorrow’s National Delegates Conference.”
“Indeed, Nana Akomea, described as the source in the Chronicle story, has come out to state that he has granted no such interview to the paper, regarding an endorsement of Paul Afoko’s bid to become National Chairman of the party by Nana Akufo-Addo,” the statement said.
Akufo-Addo’s Office said: “We are somewhat surprised that a paper of the Chronicle’s reputation made no efforts, whatsoever, in contacting Nana Akufo-Addo or any member of his staff to confirm the veracity of this story.”
The statement signed by Press Secretary Eugene Arhin said: “Nana Akomea, as the story tries to put out, apart from being the Communications Director of the 2012 campaign, does not speak for Nana Akufo-Addo.”
The statement urged “the general public and delegates of the New Patriotic Party not to give any credence to the story.”
