President Akufo-Addo is somebody we all must show respect to, former President and founder of the leading opposition party, Jerry John Rawlings has said in an interview audio MyNewsGH.com has obtained.

According to the former President, some people seem to have a problem with Akufo-Addo but he is someone we must respect because he is “cultured”.

Mr Rawlings said Akufo-Addo is not like some former presidents who are “uncultured hypocrites and wicked creatures”.

“… Somebody that we should respect, but some people seem to have a problem with him but I just keep saying that he (Akufo-Addo) is one cultured head of state …” Mr Rawlings said.

And as the audience applauded, he added for effect, “Ooh yes!”

He continued: “We have a few uncultured ones, hypocrites, wicked creatures…”

But Mr Rawlings had a disclaimer, as MyNewsGH.com noted. He said he didn’t love Akufo-Addo, and that there should be no mistake about that.

“I don’t love him, but he is cultured …” Mr Rawlings clarified.

This is not the first time that Mr Rawlings has heaped praise on President Akufo-Addo to the anger of NDC footsoldiers.

Last year, Ex-president John Rawlings had to reply to members of his party NDC who had been accusing him and his wife of liking Akufo-Addo more than NDC and was at the least chance praising Akufo-Addo.

“People think I love that man (Akufo-Addo), no… but I respect him … for certain principles and values.” Rawlings clarified.

The former President passed a vote of confidence in President Akufo-Addo in a viral video at the time, saying he trusts Akufo-Addo and is looking forward to an uncompromising fight against corruption by the Nana Akufo-Addo led administration, as MyNewsGH.com reported at the time this government was fresh in power.

Also, Mr Rawlings was one of the first people to commend the President over the appointment of Mr Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor, accusing his “corrupt” NDC of “losing the moral high ground”.

Mr Rawlings believes if the Akufo-Addo pays attention to corruption and delivers even 30 percent of his promises to the people of Ghana, the country will be a better place.

This time, he was speaking to some actors and actresses who paid a courtesy call on him in a video from last year.

“We are very fortunate that somebody like Akufo-Addo has emerged over here.” He said.

“And I just keep… I will continue to pray, and I sincerely hope that he stays the track … and he will devote, possibly even 30% of his time to 70% for developments and programs, probably he may need more than that, to fight corruptible tendencies.” He said.
