President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed his satisfaction with the growing collaboration between Ghana and Spain across various sectors, including defense, security, tourism, and sports.

He highlighted the ease of enhancing economic ties with Spain, describing the relationship as "very easy-going."

"We appreciate very much the relationship we are building up with Spain in various areas such as defence, security, tourism and sports, it proves to be very easy-going dealing with Spain," he said.

The President made these remarks at a farewell reception in Accra on Monday 29, 2024, honoring the outgoing Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, Javier Gutiérrez, who completed a three-year tenure.

The event was attended by ministers of state, such as the Minister of National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah; the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey; and the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame.

Also present were the Head of the EU Delegation to Ghana, Irchad Razaaly, representatives of other EU member states, the diplomatic corps, and members of the Spanish community in Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo commended Ambassador Gutiérrez for his efforts in strengthening the ties between Ghana and Spain, noting that these warm relations had made encounters with the Spanish Prime Minister particularly positive.

He also shared a personal connection, mentioning that both his wife and the ambassador's wife share the same first name, Rebecca, and noted his own enthusiasm for Spanish football club Real Madrid CF.

The President wished Mr. Gutiérrez well in his new assignment, assuring him that he would always be welcome in Ghana.

Ambassador Gutiérrez expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve in Ghana, describing the country as a regional leader and a significant global player.

He highlighted Ghana's inclusion as a priority country in Spain's upcoming Africa strategy, emphasizing the country's potential as a glimpse into Africa's future and opportunities. He assured that wherever he and his family go, they will always consider Ghana and its people as friends.

"Ghana is a glimpse into Africa's future and opportunities. Ghana is a priority country for Spain in Africa.

“Spain has used this insight to develop its new Africa strategy soon to be unveiled. Among some of the highlights of the past few years, Ghana has been included as an eligible country for Spanish cooperation.

"Wherever I go with my family, I can assure you that Ghana and all of you will have a friend in us," he said.
