The rivalry between ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor-bloc (representing the Asante group) and Nana Akufo-Addo faction (representing the Akyem cabal) ripping the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) apart seems to have been intensified.

Days after Mr. Sammy Crabbe, the party’s Former Greater Accra Regional Chairman and former Vice-President of the defunct Ghana International Airlines (GIA), announced his preparedness to bear the GHc40 million cost of the various elections in the NPP, Nana Addo group became suspicious and casts that offer off, sensing Kufuor-hand in it.

A member of the Akufo-Addo faction told The Informer that ‘we know Sammy Crabbe is from the John Kufuor camp. Secondly, he (Sammy Crabbe) hasn’t got that money to spend because he is in court regarding the Ghana International Airlines (GIA) issue’.

“In fact, we are reliably informed that, that money would be provided by ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor”; intimated.

However, in a chat with a member of the John Kufuor’s Asante side (name withheld), he said “we are aware that the Akufo-Addo side was going to use ‘lack of funds’ as an excuse, by way of imposing early flagbearership election on the party as they have been longing for.

“Those of us on the Kufuor side will do everything humanly possible to ensure that the various level elections are held before that of the flagbearship, so that Nana Addo and his Akyem group does not have their way”, the member indicted, adding, any amount of money needed to be used to organize the polling stations, constituency and regional elections will be provided.

The Informer believes that if Sammy Crabbe’s offer is indeed rejected, then Akufo-Addo and his faction would have to cough out the money because they can no longer use lack of funds as an excuse.

Below is published unedited, Mr. Sammy Crabbe’s letter to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP with regards to his preparedness to sponsor the various level of elections in the party:

“We are all enjoined to contribute our quota towards the good fortunes of our party. I am aware that the party would need to compile a new constituency album for elections comprising polling station executives and other mandated party officials for the purpose of electing in the first instance, members of the National Executive Committee and ultimately the next Flagbearer of our party.

"I am by this letter, informing you that I have obtained the equipment, and trained personnel to undertake this exercise in all 275 Constituencies at no cost to the party. As a party in opposition with significant resource challenges, hopefully this gesture will go a long way to reduce the cost burden on the party as it may also encourage others to contribute towards the elections of polling stations executives and party leadership across the country.

"I will be available for any further discussions if need be and look forward to a successful exercise to stand our party in good stead for a decisive and ultimately winsome contest of the 2016 General Elections...long Live the NPP,”.
