Director of Communications for the People’s National Convention (PNC), Emmanuel Wilson has stated that the recent increase in electricity tariffs has heightened the disappointment of Ghanaians in President Akuffo Addo.
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has agreed to an 11.17% tariff increase for electricity from July 1.
According to the Commission, “the key objective of the tariff review was to sustain the financial viability of utility service providers as well as ensuring the delivery of quality service to consumers.”
But in an interview with the host of Gold power drive Sammy Eshun, Mr. Wilson said even though the increment was expected, President Akuffo Addo misled Ghanaians by promising to reduce the tariffs.
This he said has led to the collapse of the energy sector under his watch.
“in my very last article I wrote, I indicated and I gave figures up to the current state of the energy sector and I predicted that if things goes this way, we will be moving into a worse situation than the period when we were experiencing the “dumsor” because speedily the energy sector is collapsing under the presidency of Akuffo Addo and that when I indicated earlier on that but for the lies that he came out to give us prior to the 2016 elections this increment or review is something really expected.”
