Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has dismissed claims that the president and his government had personal interests in the PDS concession deal.

According to him, the government did not establish the PDS, neither was Meralco, the Philippino company that is part of the companies in charge of power distribution, selected through an international competitive process supervised by some agencies including the MCC.

This statement comes on the back of claims by the NDC that the Akufo-Addo administration attempts to appropriate shares to associates through the proposed restrictive tendering.

According to General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the debacle surrounding the deal between the government of Ghana and Power Distribution Services is as a result of the greed and negligence on the part of the Akufo-Addo-led government.

Speaking at a press conference, the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah dismissed the claims, stating that Meralco was selected after pitching.

He also added that NDC’s claims that the PDS deal is corrupt is baseless since they have very little evidence to back their claims.

“…The NDC tags this deal as corrupt, they have never been able to adduce one piece of cogent evidence to back this claim. The evidence rather is that the Akufo-Addo administration is the one which through due diligence, discovered the suspected breach and have proceeded to act to preserve national assets,” he said.
