Akufo-Addo is not honest - Sammy Gyamfi

National Communications Officer for the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has described President Akufo-Addo as a liar for employing only his family and friends in his government after promising Ghanaians not to toe that line.

According to him, the reason why the NDC is talking about nepotism in the Akufo-Addo government has to do with the fact that it enhances bribery and corruption in any government.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Sammy Gyamfi said that inasmuch as there is no law on nepotism in some countries, it is unethical to appoint family and friends in public offices as it undermines the authority given to the President by the citizens.

“President Akufo-Addo on Saturday 17th of January 2016 in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region at the NPP's Delegates Conference said ‘I will not operate a family and friend government’; and again, he stood somewhere to say that his wife will not give out contracts as someone’s wife is doing. He said this to disgrace some people in this country because he wanted to be President,” he recalled.

He was of the view that “all the things President Akufo-Addo said about former President John Mahama and his wife were lies”; thus, apart from one distant family member, Joyce Bawa Mogtari who was made the Deputy Minister of Transport, former President Mahama did not employ any family member in his government.

He reiterated that President Akufo-Addo and his NPP members continued to brandish the Mahama government as a family and friends even though no member of his [Mahama] family was given any post in his government.

“But you, after tarnishing Mahama’s name, you promised that when you are voted into power, you will not do the same. Nana Addo is the first President in the history of Ghana that promised that when he was voted into power...” he asserted.

He maintained that the number of family and friends operating in the Akufo-Addo government is unprecedented in the history of the world; hence, the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has every right to talk about it for Ghanaians to know that he [Nana Addo] is not an honest person.
