Akufo-Addo launches National Public Sector Reforms Strategy

President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has launched the National Public Sector Reform Strategy aimed at reforming the public sector to make it responsive to the needs of business, the private sector, and the citizenry.

The five-year strategy according to the President will target major public sector institutions for improving client service, turnaround time and other key deliverables.

Speaking at the launch held at the Accra International Press Conference on August 7, 2018, the President bemoaned the unsuccessful attempt by previous governments to deal with the bad practices bedevilling public sector

The President also assured institutions that were responsible for training personnel will be resourced adequately to enhance the skills of public sector workers.

Meanwhile, Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu who was also at the launch advocated for the enactment of a Legislative Instrument that seeks to create a ceiling of 65 Ministers of State to be appointed by the President as part of public sector reforms.

The magnitude of government spending has come under renewed scrutiny as the Tamale North lawmaker, says the current structure where the President of the Republic makes a number of appointments he pleases should be curtailed.

The size of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government in 2017 rekindled the debate over the right size of governments that will be able to handle the challenges facing the people.

Mr Akufo-Addo’s total appointees of 110, made him the first president ever since independence to have had the largest size of government.
