Akufo-Addo leads in 7-region poll

Results of an opinion poll conducted by the Danquah Institute, a political think-tank, suggest Ghanaians would vote the NPP into power if elections were conducted on Monday 11, 2008.

The Executivce Director of the Institute and member of the Akufo-Addo campaign team, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko, however said the poll excluded the three northern regions.

A total of 2896 respondents were sampled.

According to poll 52% of Ghanaians would cast their ballot for the flag-bearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Akufo-Addo while only 25% would vote for his rival, Prof John Evans Atta Mills.

Three percent however said they would vote for Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, flag-bearer of the Convention People's Party (CPP) while the rest remain undecided.

The survey follows a recent one conducted by the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) which put the NDC ahead of the NPP by a marginal 0.3% difference.

According to NCCE survey which sampled some 5327 respondents, 42.9% and 42.6% of Ghanaians, respectively, had confidence in the NDC and the NPP.

The Communication Director of Prof. Mills’ campaign, Koku Anyidoho, rubbished the results of the opinion poll.

He said the Danquah Institute could not be trusted to conduct an unbiased poll.

According to him, the grounds were fertile for the NDC to win the elections.
