Pollster Ben Ephson says main opposition presidential candidate in the 2012 elections, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo must quit active politics.

Ephson suggests the former Attorney General and Justice Minister rather invest his stature and influence toward helping his party become a formidable one ahead of the 2016 elections.

The counsel comes on the heels of Ghana’s Supreme Court’s verdict on Thursday which endorsed John Mahama’s presidency.

Nana Akufo-Addo and two others resorted to the apex court to challenge the 2012 presidential results after the Electoral Commission declared Mr. Mahama winner on December 9 last year.

Nana Akufo-Addo accepted the Thursday verdict but said he “disagreed” with it just as he was “disappointed” about it.

He announced that he will take some time out of the political limelight, reflect on issues and later announce his future political plans.

However, the Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch Newspaper told XYZ News that Nana Akufo-Addo will be better off bowing out of active politics considering his age and health.

“If I were to advise him, I’ll think that given his age in 2016, health issues and so on, he can devote a lot of his energies to building a very strong party…he needs to build bridges and strengthen the structures,” he added.

Nana Akufo-Addo will be 72 years in 2016.

He travelled to the UK about three months ago for what his press secretary described as a routine medical checkup.
