Ghanaians living abroad have kick start a campaign to put pressure on President Akufo-Addo to resign even before his required four-year term ends in January 2021, in order to avoid what they say is “total collapse of the country under his watch.”

According to them, they have in the last seven months regretted the change they voted for in the 2016 elections which brought Akufo-Addo and the NPP to power.

Now believing they were hoodwinked into campaigning and voting for the New Patriotic Party to “rescue” the country, the diasporans say President Akufo-Addo and the NPP have in the past seven months moved the country from bad to worse.

According to some of them, since President Akufo-Addo took over the leadership of the country, all the things he promised to fix when elected have rather worsened, insisting “nothing is working in Ghana under Akufo-Addo.”

They are also accusing the President of turning the country into a banana republic “to the extent that Americans are saying Ghana is no longer safe. Corruption is rife, unemployment is becoming worst, nepotism is high, hardship and other vices are now the order of the day in Ghana,” an angry Ghanaian living in America stated in an audio recording obtained by this paper.

Several other audio/visuals circulating on social media by some of the diasporans show how Ghanaians living outside the country have given up on the infant Akufo-Addo government and are relishing the President resigns immediately.

“Change, change, change that Akufo-Addo says has come…is this the change Nana Akufo-Addo promised? This change is fake…is this the government Akufo-Addo says will transform Ghana? Nana Akufo-Addo has no clue about governance, he must resign,” a voice on one of the audio recordings stated.

“…in Ghana today, if it is not Delta Forces, then it is Invincible Forces. Under this government, thugs can invade a court and beat the hell out of a judge and the people who committed this crime will be set free… Prices of goods and services are on the increase…the price of cement have increased. Is this the better economy Bawumia promised Ghanaians? They cannot do the work so Akufo-Addo must resign,” the voice stated.

Another incensed diasporan added, “Ghanaians are suffering but they don’t want us to say it. You deceived us that when we vote for NPP, you will give each constituency one million dollar a year, today you are telling us the one million dollar will not be sent to the constituencies this year. They keep changing the goal post…today they say this tomorrow then they change it. Akufo-Addo promised not to borrow but in seven months he has increased our debt stock to about137 billion Ghana cedis….we cannot continue like this. Akufo-Addo must resign before he collapses this country,” he insisted.

Another group of disporans have accused President Akufo-Addo of deceit. They say “he (Akufo Addo) promised to create jobs for the youth but look at what they are doing. They have cancelled the bonding of nurses, introduced quota system and now they are saying they cannot employ people into the public service. So which employment are they going to create and where are they going to employ the youth?”

The angry diasporans, mainly supporters of the ruling NPP based in US, Canada, Europe among others say; they cannot fathom why a President who campaigned on “righting the wrongs” of the National Democratic Congress will after winning election be doing worse of what they accused their predecessors of.

Short of saying they regretted leading the countless demonstrations against the Mahama administration in furtherance of Akufo- Addo’s dream of becoming President, majority of them said, the NPP government is doing the opposite of what they promised.

They insisted that, the President has in the past seven months demonstrated he has no solution to the country’s challenges, adding that “all that he has done so far is to be whining that he was bequeathed with debts…he knew about our challenges before he made the promises so if he cannot do the job he should just resign”.

While the diasporans are demanding the President resigns, Ghanaians back home, save, unrepentant loyalists of the NPP, have also been fuming and chastising the President for promising “heaven on earth” but delivering “hell” after winning.

Strangely, some leading members of the NPP have also joined the chorus of those bashing President Akufo-Addo for deceiving Ghanaians. A founding member of the governing party, Attoh Quarshie has openly said President Akufo Addo has failed.

According to him acts of corruption and injustices among others perpetuated under past administrations are being repeated under the Akufo-Addo administration, something he said has left him [Atto-Quarshie] “greatly” disappointed.

“As for Nana, I don’t want to make any comment about him because he has failed the nation. What other past governments did that he is supposed to correct it, he has not done it and his family members, friends and supporters are there watching him” he told TV3

According to the NPP founding member, President Akufo-Addo has styled himself as a human rights activist yet that is not reflecting in his governance, saying “what is happening in the country is the opposite. “His doings will show whether truly he is a human right [activist], communist or dictator human right”, he said.

The University Nursing Students Association of Ghana (UNSAG) and Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPD) have also said they are disappointed in President Akufo-Addo for neglecting them after wooing them to vote for him.

“We are much disappointed in President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party for neglecting our members in the appointment of persons to become MMDCEs in government” national president of GSPD, Mr. Clifford Owusu Ansah lamented.

On his part, The President of the UNSAG, Mr Collins Agyarko said, nurses across the country are disappointed in President Akufo-Addo for failing to implement the promises he made to them during the campaign, saying the President has failed to show leadership.

He said he was one of the people who had absolute confidence in the current administration and was hopeful it was going to bring significant change in the health sector but has been left highly disappointed by this government. He said breach of promise is very expensive not only in terms of voters’ confidence but in terms of God’s holding them…”

Contrary to President Akufo-Addod promise to restore allowance for nurses and increase infrastructure at nursing training schools to increase intake, the government has instead, introduced the quota system to the chagrin of prospective nurses and parents.

Teacher Trainees who were promised of restoration of their allowances after NPP’s victory at the polls have also been left to their faith. Government has now directed them to register with the Student Loan Trust Fund to benefit from the scheme.

Supporters of the governing party who are into illegal small scale mining also known as galamey, who, then candidate Akufo-Addo promised not to stop their activities when elected, are also wailing and cursing their stars for aiding the party to come to the party.

One such NPP galamseyers in the Akwatia constituency whose bulldozers where recently burnt by a military taskforce set up to weed out galamseyers, have released a video in which he is heard sharing his frustration and regret for voting for President Akufo-Addo.

Parents who have their children in Senior High Schools and so voted for Akufo-Addo to introduce free SHS policy have also been disappointed, as President Akufo-Addo has altered his flagship policy to include only first year SHS students.

Contractors, who were promised settlement of their claim by an Akufo Addo government within 100 days among other Ghanaians who were expecting President Akufo Addo to roll out policies to better their lives, have all said they are impatiently waiting to vote out the NPP government in the next presidential election in 2020.
