Akufo-Addo must stop his hypocrisy - Sammy Gyamfi

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team, Sammy Gyamfi has launched a scathing attack at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for asking Ghanaians to desist from praying at work places during working hours whilst he and his appointees did the opposite.

According to him, he is yet to come to terms as to why the President will for the first time halt prayer sessions at work places, making him the first gentleman of the state to take such a decision.

“The same President rode on God to win power only to turn round and ask Ghanaians not to pray at work places because they are wasting the time of the state. He and his appointees however spent the whole day at prayers saying they were thanking God for their electoral victory. If this is not hypocrisy what else is it? I want the President to stop his hypocrisy”, he stated on Adom TV.

He questioned who the NPP is trying to deceive with such a directive when they are aware that it was because of God in the slogan christened “the battle is the lords” Ghanaians mandated them.

“Today, Akufo-Addo is now saying that prayer is irrelevant because and therefore workers must cease the habit because they are wasting working hours…. allow me to expose the hypocrisy. It was a Thursday …a working day but his ministers, MPs and other appointees went and said they are thanking God for their victory . The same person has made a sudden u-turn and going to thank God making him insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians. Whilst he was doing that, there was a long queue at ECG offices by customers to buy power because ECG claims their systems have collapsed. Three of such persons collapsed, you won’t address this but said you were going to thank God. Students of KUMACA are dying but you refused to mention it in your speech at the anniversary celebration in the school or go show some sensitivity to the bereaved families”, he stressed.

In his view, the President is making his electoral victory more important than suffering ECG customers, the students at KUMACA and the general wellbeing of Ghanaians indicating that a year after taking over power, Ghanaians are disappointed in his style of leadership.

It would be recalled that President Akufo-Addo in May this year, noted that the attitudes of workers must change if the nation is to progress.

“I have said it at another forum, but I think it bears repeating: we arrive at work late and then spend the first hour in prayer; we are clock watchers and leave in the middle of critical work, because it is the official closing time. Everything comes to a stop when it rains and we seem to expect the rest of the world also to stop,” the President said.

He continued, “We have no respect for the hours set aside for work… we pray, we eat, we visit during working hours. We spend hours chatting on the telephone when customers are waiting to be served, thereby increasing our labour costs. We take a week off for every funeral. And then we wonder why we are not competitive.”
