Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has dismissed claims that New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman aspirant, Alhaji Abubakari Abdul-Rahman popularly known as Alhaji Short has the backing of President Akufo Addo in the upcoming contest slated for July.
“The allegation that Nana Akufo Addo is supporting Alhaji Short is not true, take it from me, it’s not true. The President is not backing Alhaji Short I repeat and that’s the truth,” he said on Peace FM Wednesday.
Abdul Malik Kweku Baako who’s known to be a personal friend of the President however did not state who among the contestants the President is throwing his weight behind in the impending national executive elections.
One of the leading candidates for the Chairmanship of the ruling New Patriotic Party, and three-time aspirant going for a forth, Mr Stephen Ayesu Ntim has said that President Akufo-Addo met him thrice to plead that he steps down for Alhaji Short, another contender.
He said even though the president has implored him to step down, he has made it clear to the president that he intends to see the race through.
Meanwhile, the Campaign Manager, of Alhaji Short, Kwabena Maafo has boldly stated that overwhelming majority of voters at the seat of government[Jubilee House] are fervently on the side of Alhaji Short.
Maafo contends Alhaji Short, whom well-meaning big wigs of the party see as the best candidate in the race, will likely win the heart of the President in the upcoming contest in June.
“His overall support is ticking up by the day, and I won’t be surprised that he’ll win the hearts of both the President, Vice President and all others who’ll be voting from the Jubilee House,” he stated in an interview with host Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM.
