Akufo-Addo put his life in danger with Europe trip – Anita Desoso

A former National Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anita Desoso, has said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo should not have embarked on his recent tour of Europe following the outbreak of coronavirus.

She said Mr Akufo-Addo endangered his life with that trip because he could have been infected by the disease.

Mr Akufo-Addo, last week, suspended, temporarily, all foreign travels for all public officials.

The move, according to him, is part of measures the government has taken to prevent the entry of COVID-19 in Ghana.

He has subsequently banned all his ministers from travelling following the outbreak.

Speaking on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM hosted by Kwabena Prah Jnr (The Don) on Wednesday, 11 March 2020, Ms Desoso said: “I thought he shouldn’t have travelled in the first place because of the outbreak.

“Travelling to Europe at this time puts his life at risk because the disease is just spreading all over the place.”

She added: “Even when he was delivering the State of the Nation Address, we all saw that he was suffering from a cold and, so, that alone should have made him rescind his decision to travel.”

Meanwhile, she has called on all Ghanaians to practice good personal hygiene as a protective measure against the disease.

For her part, Freda Agyeman Asante, the governing New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary aspirant for Adentan, commended the government for the steps that have been taken at the various entry points such as the Kotoka International Airport, to prevent the disease from entering Ghana.

She said: “The government has put in place measures to prevent the disease from entering Ghana”, adding: “That is good.”

“At this time, all of us have to be conscious of our health needs and be responsible.”
