Former Deputy Communication Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has said that governance under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is worse off than when the opposition was in power under former President John Dramani Mahama.

Although President Akufo-Addo has been leading the country for close to three years, the unsatisfied Felix Kwakye Ofosu maintained that there was no way the current government could match up to John Mahama’s National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, surveys conducted by the Transparency International CPI which has records of performances of both political figures confirm that President Mahama’s worst performance while in office is far better than President Akufo-Addo’s best performance.

In his words, “The most authoritative corruption barometer in the world is the Transparency International CPI. The best ever performance that Ghana has ever put up was recorded in 2014 under the NDC with 48 points. The second best was still under President Mahama – 47”. Since President Akufo-Addo has been president, his best performance has been 41. So, his best performance has been worse than President Mahama’s best performance”.

Meanwhile, the Former Deputy Communication Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu had earlier expressed shock about President Akufo-Addo’s posture on the high level of corruption cases under his government although he’s been hit with many. Kwakye Ofosu voiced his dismay particularly about the fact that President Akufo-Addo is trying to portray the picture that the opposition National Democratic Congress wants to sabotage his administration by tagging them as 'corrupt'.

Contributing on the topic, The Corruption Wars on Citi TV’s ‘Point of View’ he argued that the Akufo-Addo government has been dented with so many political scandals that it has affected, negatively, Ghana’s performance in the fight against corruption.

“Indeed, the worst ever performance was in 2017, under President Akufo-Addo when he had a score of 40 and we need to also look at the quality of inputs that go into these surveys. That is the input, data and the outcome.”

He further added that “The real test is when President Akufo-Addo is able to put his own appointees against whom tons of evidence of corruption have been made before court. He has been unable to do that".
