Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has alleged that the level of corruption being witnessed under the Akufo-Addo government can be likened to organised crime.

“How come that during NDC’s time, when one-tenth of those same things happened, NDC was described as corrupt? Now under the NPP, a thousand of those things are happening and they say they have to be proven? It’s incredible…it’s becoming like organized crime,” he said on Pan African TV.

The former Minister, therefore, argued that it will take only the NDC to save the country from the corruption that has engulfed it, urging Ghanaians to reject the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the upcoming 2020 elections.

“The government is gradually becoming a kakistocracy. It is frightening. And 2020 is not just an election, it is a rescue mission; we need to rescue this country from that kakistocracy…because the kinds of things that are happening they have never happened before in this country since Kwame Nkrumah,” he alleged.

The NPP came to power with the promise to fight corruption but under its reign, there have been many allegations of corruption, with some notable personalities like Vitus Azeem, saying that corruption has worsened under the current government.

But the government has always defended its records with regards to the corruption fight, maintaining that all is being done to fight it, especially the setting up of the Office of the Special Prosecutor to tackle corruption head-on.
