Bernard Anim Piesie, a member of the communications team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says President Akufo-Addo has failed in his promise to nib corruption in the bud.

According to him, the canker has so much thrived to the extent that its pungent smell pervades the presidency.

Ghana, in the 2019 Corruption Perception Index (CPI) rankings released last week, maintained its 2018 score of 41 points but slipped from 78th in 2018 to 80th out of the 180 countries and territories under consideration.

But the ruling government insists the President must be patted on the back for doing a yeoman's job in his commitment to the fight against corruption.

Anim Piesie, contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', branded the president, Nana Akufo-Addo a "midfielder in corruption".

"When you compare the performance of the ruling government to that of the Mahama administration, the former pales in significance to the latter. Mahama performed extremely well in the fight against corruption. If now it has turned out that the presidency is part of the most corrupt institutions (in the country), then we are in deep trouble . . . presidency is the sixth most corrupt institution; midfielder . . . in football six is a midfielder; sixth most corrupt institution was how the presidency ranked. A president who promised to fight corruption, his office has now become a midfielder in the practice," he derisively told sit-in host Nana Yaw Kesseh.
