Akufo-Addo’s ‘solid trust’ in Bawumia delivered Sinohydro - Gideon Boako

Spokesperson for Vice President, Dr Gideon Boako has said President Akufo-Addo's confidence in Bawumia capability resulted in the latter securing the much spoken about Sinohydro deal.

Speaking on Okay FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Dr Boako mentioned that sod will be cut for projects under the Sinohydro deal within November with construction to follow in the next month.

Dr Boako is quoted to have said, “the President H.E Nana Akufo-Addo trusted the capability of Vice President Dr Bawumia and entrusted him to deliver the Sinohydro deal”

The special economic advisor in the office of Vice President explained that the EPC contractor has already started moving their equipment into the country to start work.

Continuing that, the Sinohydro cash is not with the government of Ghana because government is not doing the disbursement. It is rather with the EPC contractor who will ensure it is utilized for the purpose under government’s watch.

Speaking later on Kumasi-based Hello FM, Dr Boako added more:

“The facility is a credit agreement between the Ghana Government and the Deutsche Bank meant for auxiliary infrastructure of the Kumasi Inner-city roads. Government has gone through the necessary processes, including securing parliamentary approval and the projects have been awarded to CONTRACTA CONSTRUCTION, a UK Construction firm,” Dr Boako explained.

According to him, areas to benefit from the project are Bantama Sub metro-13.23km, Kwadaso-11.60km, Manhyia-8.98km, Oforikrom-10.61km and Suame-12.01km. The rest are Subin-13.25km, Asokwa-11.25km, Nhyiaeso-10.13km and Tafo Pankrono-8.96km.

“The rehabilitation of those roads in the aforementioned towns and communities is in accordance with government’s recognition of good road infrastructure as a critical facilitator of rapid socio-economic development,” Dr Boako added.
