Ashanti regional executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have described President Akufo-Addo’s 3-day tour to the Ashanti region as a waste of taxpayers’ money.
According to the party, the president’s tour is an admission of failure to give the region its share of the ‘national cake’.
The party is, therefore, urging residents of the region to demand their share of National development.
“As you know already, no region kept so much faith and so much confidence in President Akufo-Addo in the 2016 general elections more than the Ashanti region. Candidate Akufo- Addo garnered close to 1.7 million votes in the Ashanti region as compared to 678,000 votes in his home region that is the eastern region.
“Therefore it was the legitimate expectation of the good people of Ashanti that this unflinching show of support will be reciprocated in the form of corresponding massive infrastructural development, improved living conditions, and an enabling environment for Ashanti business to thrive. However the revers of this expectation is what currently pertains in the Ashanti region as we speak,” regional communications director Abass Nurudeen Mohammed told a news conference .
He added: “The 120-bed Kumawu district hospital that was initiated by John Dramani mMahama has been left to rot by the NPP government. The 60-bed tia district hospital, the 120-bed Formena district hospital, the 60-bed kKnongo district hospital, and the 500-bed military hospital and150-staff housing units that was initiated by his excellency John Dramani Mahama have been left to rot under the Akufo-Addo government”.
