The popularity of the 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital became evident on Sunday when the astute politician attended a wedding in the city.

The congregation at the auditorium of the Bantama SDA Church applauded anytime Nana Akufo-Addo’s name was mentioned during the colourful ceremony.

He attended the wedding of Kwame Adu Nsiah and Ivy Akua Afriyie, the daughter of the NPP General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John.

Several dignitaries, including seasoned politicians in the country, mostly from the NPP, attended the ceremony.

Nana Akufo-Addo immensely thrilled the congregants at the event.

Before the NPP presidential candidate arrived at the venue, word had gone round the city that he would attend a wedding at the Bantama SDA Church and this attracted a sizeable number of people to the venue.

Nana Akufo-Addo and his entourage were given a rousing welcome by the congregation and NPP supporters.

The congregation literally turned the event into political affair.

Nana Akufo-Addo, who was overwhelmed by the show of love by the congregants, responded to the cheers of the crowd.

NPP bigwigs, including party chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh aka Napo, MP for Manhyia South, F.F. Anto, Ashanti Regional Chairman, Kwabena Kokofu, MP for Bantama, Stephen Amoah and the constituency and regional executives of the party were present.

The 2012 presidential candidate of Independent People’s Party (IPP), Kofi Akpaloo, Nana Mensah Bonsu aka ‘Atiki,’ former parliamentary candidate, RPD, Nhyiaeso, Andy Owusu of Free Education Now Prayer Group and Nana Asamoah Boateng, ex-DCE Amansie West, were present at the function.

Nana Akufo-Addo’s security guards struggled to control the enthusiastic crowd after the programme, as the people mobbed the NPP presidential candidate in an attempt to shake hands with him.

Sir John, later in a chat with DAILY GUIDE, commended the people that graced the occasion, stressing that the display of love really touched his heart.
