President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Addo is expected to join Otumfuo Osei Tutu, as he marks the 20th anniversary of his coronation as Asantehene.
The grand durbar which will witness cultural extravaganza will have thousands of Asantes and well wishers from across the world, converge on Dwabrem of the Manhyia Palace to share in the joy and glory of the anniversary. Otumfuo Osei Tutu ascended to the Golden Stool on April 26,1999.
On that day, Barima Kwaku Dua, as he was then called, held in his right hand the Busumuru sword, and with his kuntunkuni ( black cloth) swore the oath of Asante to be faithful to his people.
The programme is scheduled to start at midday but all the other chiefs attending the ceremony will be seated before the celebrant, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, arrives.
The celebration would be incomplete without a look at how occupancy of the throne has been over the years.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, known in private life as Nana Barima Kwaku Dua, became the occupant of the Golden Stool, when Otumfuo Opoku Ware II died in 1999.
By name, Otumfuo Osei Tutu IIis in direct succession to the founder of the Empire of Ashanti, Otumfuo Osei Tutu 1.
Osei Tutu II, born May 6, 1950, is the 16th Asantehene, traditional ruler of the Kingdom of Ashanti in Ghana since April 26, 1999.
