Prof Stephen Kweku Asare, a US-based Ghanaian Legal Practitioner and Accounting Professor, popularly known on Facebook as Kwaku Azar, has jabbed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his decision to scrap Republic Holiday which is observed on 1st July.

The President on 16th April, 2019, assented to the Public Holidays (Amendment) Act 2019 which clearly states Statutory Public Holidays and Commemorative days.

The commemorative days which includes 1st July, will now not be observed as a public holiday.

This has incurred the displeasure of scores of Ghanaians.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the party will restore 1st July of every year as Republic Day when they 'come back' to power in 2020.

Adding his voice to this debate while speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi in an exclusive interview on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Prof Azar said: "institutions are important and so I was not happy when the Republic Day which has been celebrated for 60 years was changed."
