Koforidua, June 29, GNA - The Akwapem South Municipality was filled with jubilation last Tuesday after the confirmation of the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Mark Amoako Dompreh.

He was confirmed by 50 out of 75 Assembly Members present, representing 67 per cent of the votes cast.

Mr Dompreh is a 55-year-old graduate nurse in Canada and he replaced Dr Godfred Osei Bonsu-Twum whose appointment was revoked by the President about six months ago.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Dompreh thanked the assembly members and called on all to work together to achieve the developmental goals of the area and promised to do all it takes to honour his obligation to the people of the Municipality.

Dr Kwesi Akyem Apea-Kubi, the Eastern Regional Minister, reminded the assembly members that they had lost so much in terms of development for the past six months due to the absence of an MCE and called on the people to start working together for development.

He appealed to the assembly members to reduce the number of "remove him" petitions since those would only cost the municipality more.

Some assembly members who spoke to the Ghana News Agency said the jubilation over the confirmation demonstrated that the people truly support the appointment of Mr Amoako.
