Akyem Oda, May 23, GNA- Eric Amanfo, a 38 year-old trader, who duped a number of people with the pretext of securing visa's for them to travel to Korea has been arrested by the Akyem Oda Divisional Police Command.

Amanfo was said to have collected monies ranging between 30 million cedis to 50 million cedis from his victims from Tarkwa, Koforidua, Akyem Oda and other parts of the country.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sampson Agbeko, the Akyem Oda Divisional Crime Officer told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, following several complaints received from people that Amanfo had promised taking them to Korea but absconded, the police mounted an extensive search for him.

He said Amanfo, who had been moving from one hotel to the other was finally arrested in Accra on Monday and brought to Akyem Oda. ASP Agbeko said the modus operandi of Amanfo was to use a picture of a well-known businessman who had travelled abroad to deceive unsuspecting people that he was the one who facilitated his trip. He said after collecting huge sums of money from the victims, Amanfo would go into hiding.

ASP Agbeko has appealed to people who might have fallen victim to Amanfo to call at the Divisional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to lodge a formal complaint.

Meanwhile, Amanfo was on Tuesday put before the Akyem Swedru Circuit Court where he had been remanded in police custody for two weeks to enable the police to conduct further investigations into his activities.
