Akyemmansa District is improving steadily - DCE

By November 2014, construction of a multipurpose administrative block estimated at about GH¢946,769.64 to house the Akyemmansa District Assembly would have been completed.

When completed the two-storey block at Akyem Ofoase will accommodate all the decentralized departments in the district which are operating from rented premises.

Mr Tom Budu, the District Chief Executive, told the GNA that the district was progressing and expressed satisfaction at the rate of work so far executed by the contractor who had s roofed the building and completed the wiring in less than two years.

Mr Budu said a District Magistrate’s Court block, which had been completed and handed over, had taken the burden off the Judicial Service which was operating from a rented premise.

He said the District Police Commander’s bungalow had also been roofed awaiting “finishing touches” whiles work on office accommodation for the District Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) was going on.

Mr. Budu commended staff of the assembly and decentralized departments for their hard work under difficult conditions “taking into account the poor road network and lack of decent residential accommodation.”

He appealed to private estate developers to approach the assembly which is ready to assist them to acquire plots of land under liberal terms to put up buildings for workers.

The Akyemmansa District was carved out of the Birim North District in 2008 and is one of the most deprived districts in the country.

Even though it had some health facilities like health centres and Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds it does not have a hospital and a medical officer in the district.
