Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Founder of Ghana and Ghana’s first President continues to shine his light on the African Continent decades after his death.
The man who gave Ghana her independence, and lit the flame for the African liberation struggle, has been etched on the memory of the Continent as the doyen of African politics.
To duly immortalize the undying hero, the African Union (AU), has erected a statue of the great Dr. Kwame Nkrumah at the forecourt of the new AU magnificent edifice built gratis by China, for the visionary leadership he gave the African Continent as well as the key role he played in establishing the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), in 1963, and which has now become the African (AU).
At a gathering, on Thursday, January 26, 2012, to herald the arrival of President Atta Mills to the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa to unveil the statue of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, as well as deliver the keynote address at the 18th Ordinary Session of the AU, many Ghanaians based in Addis Ababa, as well as Ghanaians who travelled to Ethiopia for the event, could not hide their joy as regards the high pedestal on which Kwame Nkrumah’s Ghana stand today.
The Ghanaian spirit was high as everything paled into insignificance; leaving only the image of Ghana as the main topic for discussion.
Among the tall list of Ghanaians who were present at the gathering, was, Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, the man who magnanimously allowed Nana Akufo-Addo to become flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), going into the 2008 general election.
Mr. Alan Kyeremanten is currently based in Addis Ababa were he has picked up a juicy job with the AU.
The affable politician, who would have given the NPP a nicer face if he were the flagbearer of the party, endeared himself to many with his warmth and gentlemanlike demeanour at the ceremony.
Alan Kyeremanten’s presence at the event was ample testimony that there are some clear heads in the NPP who are not prepared to re-write Ghana’s history and create the unwise impression that Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah did nothing for Ghana and Africa.
It is a matter of fact that, there are many within the NPP (including former President John Agyekum Kufuor), who have attempted in vain to dishonour the memory of Kwame Nkrumah, but the more they struggle to dim the light of the Founder of Ghana, the more his light shines.
Also present at the gathering were, Foreign Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, Trade Minister, Hannah Tetteh, Presidential Staffer, Dr. Don Arthur, Professor Francis Nkrumah, CPP Chairperson, Madam Samia Yaba Nkrumah, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Mr. Ken Kanda, Chairperson of the Africa Peer Review Mechanism, Professor S.K. Agyepong, Head of Communications at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho, UNDP Resident Representative in Ethiopia, Mr. Eugene Owusu, and scores of Ghanaians and friends of Ghana.
The event was hosted by Ambassador Kwesi Quartey, Ghana’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and the AU.
