Supporters of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have protested against the bussing of supporters to the Kotoka International Airport to welcome Nana Addo from his European tour on Sunday.

Leading Alan's agitators is his confidante, Mr. John Kumah, who told The Chronicle in an interview that it was a bad precedent for the party supporters to appear at the airport to support Nana, who is no more the leader of the party.

Mr. Kumah said the party executives should come out to explain whether or not they were aware about the transportation of the supporters of the party to welcome Nana at the airport.

"I don't understand why the party would organize such a thing for Nana Addo on his return to the country, as far as I am concerned, they did not do it to show solidarity for Nana Addo, so what has happened, is it because he is the leader of the party or he was the flagbearer of the party?"

He intimated that the Constitution of the party made it clear that in opposition, the leader of the party should be the Chairman, adding "So if Nana Addo returns from abroad, then on what basis do we organize party people to go and meet him at the airport?" he rhetorically inquired.

He suspected that the whole arrangement was part of the scheme to de-motivate and make it impossible for anybody to contest Nana Addo at the next congress.

Mr. Kumah alsoinquired whether it had become a norm for all leaders of the party to sponsor supporters of the party to meet them at venues of their arrival, whenever they traveled outside the country.

"So if President Kufuor travels outside the country, would the party organize supporters to go and meet him at the airport?" He was quick to note that their sentiments had nothing to do with Mr. Kyerematen, and that he has always been an active member of the party.

"When I was in school, I was part of the people who went to the Volta region as members of the Tertiary Education Students Confederation (TESCON) and was nearly lynched.

Mr. Kumah maintained that he had the right to comment on issues that would not auger well for the future of the party and that he was concerned with issues that would unite the party.

He said the supporters should wait until they go to congress for the next leader to be selected before they start to show such kind of support.
