The Minister for Water Resources and Housing, and a long standing Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli West in the Upper West Region, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has been caught paints down in the alleged forgery scandal.
Document diligently intercepted by the Daily Searchlight intercepted by the Daily Searchlight coupled with sources in Washington indicate that the former Majority Leader in Parliament last year embarked on a jolly trip to Washington in the United States with his wife at the expense of the tax payer!
He forged documents to portray his wife as staff of Parliament and secretary to the Ghanaian delegation attending a conference in the United States, the Daily Searchlight can confirm. The two love birds, according to credible sources in Washington, were part of the Ghanaian delegation who were attending the 31st Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) conference in Washington DC, United States, on the theme: “Environment and Energy Management. Checks by the Searchlight newspaper further stated that Hon. Bagbin, who was then the majority leader, as well as the leader of the Ghanaian delegation, presented his wife, one Mrs. Alice Adjoa Yornas, as secretary to the delegation, claiming the wife was a staff of Parliament! But the Daily Searchlights investigations has revealed that Alice Adjoa Yornas is apparently not a staff of Parliament and therefore, could not be secretary to the delegation, who were made up of only Members of Parliament (MPs) and a clerk of parliament.
Checks in parliament through the Public Relations officer of Parliament, Mr. Jones Kugblenu, reveals that there is nobody by that name working in Parliament as a secretary or whatever. The conference which took place from 20-22 October, 2009 was supported by the United Nations Environment Programme, United Nations Fund for Population Activities, Stewart Mott and Charitable Trust.
Other sponsors included Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DANIDA) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). Other MPs on the delegation included Hon Mrs. Gifty Eugenia Kusi, Deputy Minority Whip and Hon Abdul Rashid, Minister of State. Another person who was on the delegation is one Mr. Samuel Dwomoah Addei, a clerk to the population caucus. The Minister who once rejected his wife and attempted to marry his wife’s sister is alleged to have presented the documents that his wife, Alice Adjoa Yornas, is a staff of Parliament and secretary to the delegation to the US Embassy in order to secure a visa for her following which they enjoyed that jolly trip to the US which was catered for by the state.
