Bolgatanga, Oct. 17, GNA - The Secretary-General of the United Nations Association, Mr Emanuel Amoasakye Amoah says the abuse of alcohol renders a lot of workers unable to attend to work. This, he said was affecting the country's productivity. He advised workers who were engaged in such practices to desist from that since that would not increase productivity to enable the government increase their salaries.
Mr. Amoasakye-Amoah noted that majority of workers who did not attend to their work hence affecting productivity were always found among others embarking upon strikes to demand for more salaries. He said such people need to be sanctioned or disciplined to be served a deterrent to others.
The Secretary-General of UNA made this observation when he inaugurated the Upper East UNA chapter in Bolgatanga at the weekend. Mr Amoasakye-Amoah explained further that the abuse of alcohol was not good for the body system and was very hazardous to the health of the individual, saying many people have died because of the abuse of alcohol.
Mr Amoasakye-Amoah cautioned people who were found in this act to desist from that for their own health benefits and the country as whole. The General Secretary of the UNA stressed that the country cannot use huge sum of monies to train people for its human resource base only to lose them through the abuse of alcohol.
He warned workers and Ghanaians who indulge in such acts that the question of good health is a matter of choice and impressed upon them to stop that act.
He also entreated Ghanaians to always endeavour to keep their environment clean to prevent diseases since most of the disease emanate from poor sanitation.
