The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers(COPEC-GH) has commended President Akufo-Addo for taking the action to remove from office, the immediate past Managing Director of the Bulk Storage and Transportation (BOST)Alfred Obeng Boateng following the scandals that hit the company under his watch.

“The president has indeed demonstrated his aversion for corruption and we believe all others in other key positions will take a cue and not engage in acts that only serves their pockets to the disadvantage of the institutions they have been appointed to.” a statement signed by the Executive Secretary, Duncan Amoah said.

The Head of the Chamber, Amoah and the past Managing Director-Alfred Obeng Boateng has been on a warpath on several controversial issues which the Chamber says is as a result of series of bad management decisions by the past Managing Director.

Scandals such as the decision to carelessly dump over 5 million litres of contaminated oil onto the market through unlicensed firms received strong bashing, opposition and disgust from Copec, Acep, IES and the entire public.

Notwithstanding this, Mr Alfred Obeng months later was also caught up in the trading off and selling of over 1.8 million barrels to two companies at a rate way below the then prevailing market rates leading to huge financial losses to BOST and the state at large, reports say.

However, Mr Obeng’s appointment was affected in the wake of the stroke of dismissals that hit several CEOs of parastatal agencies by President Akufo-Addo.

The government dismissed Mr Alfred Obeng Boateng as the Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transport Company last week, and appointed Mr George Mensah Okley to take over from him.

This was contained in a letter signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante dated June 5, 2018.

COPEC reacting to the development said: “the President’s master stroke to give BOST a new MD will not only boost public confidence but also boost the confidence of the business community in the company to ensure the Global Major Oil Traders all of whom had withdrawn from carrying out any business with the company, will now find a good reason to renew business operations with BOST.”
