Alfred Vanderpuije is The New Accra Mayor

Mr Alfred Vanderpuije, a Ghanaian USA based school administrator has been confirmed Mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly. The 54 year old JamesTown native received an overwhelming approval of almost every members of the assembly which was made up of 89 assembly members within the metropolis.

His confirmation was done through a special ballot as demanded by the constitution of the assembly.

The program was witnessed by the Greater Accra Regional Minister Nii Armah Ashitey, Mr I.T. Adzovor, Coordinating Director of the assembly, Nii Jerry Aquaye Thompson, former member of the assembly and Fritz Barfuor , N.D.C MP for Ablekuma South.

However a five member delegation from the North American branch of the National Democratic Congress came down to support Mr Vanderpuije who is also a member of the branch.

They were Mr. Tony Amuzu, first Vice Chairman of the branch, Prof. Agyenim Boateng, Mr Alhassan Umar, Mr Kwame A. Agyeman and Madam Ananomobi.

In his acceptance speech Mr. Vander called for support from each of member of the assembly . He stated that he was looking forward for effective strategies to tackle numerous problems facing the capital.

He promised to demonstrate responsible and humane leadership.
