Police officials are tight lipped on the reported arrest of the son of a prominent businessman and politician, Alhaji Asumah Banda. But sources told JOY FM that Alhaji Banda’s son was caught red handed and arrested along with two others who were allegedly robbing an expatriate.

Two others, one of them believed to be a female, is on the run. The gang of five allegedly trailed their victim from the airport to her residence at Osu where they attempted robbery occurred last Thursday.

Sources told JOY FM that the suspected robbers used four cars, all of which have been impounded and are being kept at the CID headquarters.

When JOY FM visited the compound, two of the cars reportedly used for the operation, a Green VW Golf with number GR 5343T, and a gray BMW convertible with registration GW 8284 R were parked with the tires deflated.

Officials on duty would not confirm or deny the arrest, even though they indicated that investigations are being conducted into reports that the son of Alhaji Asumah Banda, who is a leading member of the CPP, has been allegedly involved in a robbery.

But sources who spoke JOY FM and pleaded anonymity for fear of retribution expressed worry that the suspect and his accomplices could be left off the hook because of his father’s links with the powers that be.

Alhaji Banda reportedly visited the CID and Police headquarters on Saturday with his lawyer, presumably to negotiate for the release of his son on bail whilst investigations continue.

Alhaji Banda joined the campaign against crime last year by setting up a fund to help raise money to equip the police service combat the alarming spate of armed robbery.
