Alhaji Collins Dauda, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asutifi South, on Thursday submitted his nomination forms as the unopposed candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for re-election in 2016.

Alhaji Dauda, also the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development has been the MP for the area since Ghana’s return to democratic rule in 1992 to date, except in Election 2000 when he lost the seat to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) Mrs. Cecilia Gyan Amoah, but regained it in 2004.

Addressing his supporters after submitting the forms to Constituency Party Executives at Hwidiem in the Asutifi South District of Brong-Ahafo Region, Alhaji Dauda explained that the rationale behind the NDC’s biometric registration exercise of members was to encourage transparency in their voting processes.

It was also to widen the net to give the members and supporters the chance to elect their preferred candidates and leaders to lead the Party, he added.

Alhaji Dauda urged NDC members and sympathisers to spread the campaign messages of the Party far, even to the circles of their opponents.

He emphasised on the need for them to eschew pride and undertake membership drive in the Election 2016 campaign with humility and respect for greater impact of the Party in the constituency and the country at large.

Alhaji Dauda said the socio-economic developments, like the motorable road networks, availability of potable water, electricity, health and educational facilities in Asutifi South was as a result of the NDC’s good governance of the country.

He therefore appealed to the electorate to maintain not only him as the MP but President John Dramani Mahama in the general election of 2016.

Mr. Yaw Okyere, the Constituency Chairman of the Party, earlier stressed that Alhaji Dauda had served the Constituency well with commitment and dedication and pleaded that “because of his achievements for us, we must maintain him and the NDC in Election 2016”.
