A former vice chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Sani Mohammed is predicting that some current leadership of the party will be lynched should they visit some constituencies.
He explained that, some of the national executives are directly responsible for the party's humiliating defeat in the December 7, 2016 general elections.
Alhaji Sani Mohammed made the comment while reacting to recommendations made by the Kwasi Botchwey committee tasked to research into the cause(s) of the NDC defeat.
The committee on Monday, June 19, 2017 presented its 455-page report to the party and made eight key recommendations which it believes will help the party to reconnect to its base.
The 13-member Committee recommended among other things a “peacemaking and healing tour” which should be led by some eminent personalities of the party.
But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Tuesday, Alhaji Sani Mohammed said though the peacemaking tour is a good idea, it could be a recipe for disaster.
He indicated that the party neglected the grassroots for years only to attempt to win them back a few days to the elections.
“I can bet you some of the executives will be lynched should be embark on the peace building tour. The people at the grassroots are very angry”, he stated.
He cited how the Ashanti regional executives painted an unrealistic picture to President Mahama regarding the situation on the ground, including the grand promise to deliver 1 million votes for the party from the region as an example to buttress his point.
On the way forward, Alhaji Sani Mohammed said neutral people accepted by the people should be chosen to lead the peace tour for it to be successful.
He commended the Kwasi Botchwey Committee for setting the records straight and bringing out the bare facts of what led to their defeat.
