The Aliu Mahama Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development and the office of the National Chief Imam will launch the ‘Zongo Laafia’, a community health and well-being outreach program for residents in Zongo and Inner City Communities on January 12, 2019 at the Fadama residence of the Chief Imam.

The Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu is the Special Guest of Honour for the event.

The Foundation is now collaborating with the Zongo Ministry to concentrate its efforts in the Zongos with a target of about 10,000 people expected to benefit from the Zongo Laafia program.

The health screening exercise will cover ailments such as hypertension, malaria, skin infections, eye problems and so on among the people of the Zongo particularly the aged, women and children.

This program is in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 which is to “ensure healthy lives and promote well being for all at all ages”.

The Aliu Mahama Foundation has interest in giving back to the society through various outreach programmes. In the past it has pursued the welfare of prisoners at the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons, supported the education of orphans and empowered market women in the North and in the Zongos with capital. The prisoners program was dubbed “My Health Behind Bars’ and was highly successful in helping to improve the health of inmates.

Last year, the Aliu Mahama Foundation embarked on numerous activities including the presentation of GH¢ 12,000 as a start-up capital to some 111 women in the shea industry in the Yendi Municipality in the Northern Region. The beneficiaries were put in a group of tens to form a corporative.
