Yendi (N/R), April 30, GNA – Aliu Mahama Foundation (AMF) has undertaken a clean-up exercise at Yendi township as part of efforts to promote a clean and hygienic environment to prevent diseases.

Scores of residents joined the exercise on Sunday to sweep, desilt choked drains, as well as collect heaps of rubbish at the Yendi Municipal Hospital, market centres and the Yendi main town.

Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, Development Advocate and son of former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, who led the exercise, said it was in keeping with his father’s campaign against indiscipline in society.

Former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, stood for discipline in society by promoting cleanliness whiles abhorring dirt.

Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama advised residents to keep their surroundings clean to prevent outbreak of diseases.

The day was climaxed with a football tournament amongst youth of Yendi as part of efforts to promote unity and peace amongst the people of the area.

Meanwhile, the AMF has trained women and youth groups at Yendi on shea butter processing and soap making to equip them with skills to earn a decent living thereby addressing poverty in rural communities.

Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama said the AMF would continue to work to ensure that the legacy of Aliu Mahama lived on, adding the AMF would continue to empower people across the country with self-employable skills.
