Accra, Oct.16, GNA- Dr Amoako Tuffour, Co-ordinator of the National School Feeding Programme on Monday described Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama as the strongest candidate who can retain power for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Election 2008.
He stressed: "God has given us Aliu as the next President of Ghana. God pulls whoever he wants to lead."
Dr Tuffour who is also an NPP activist and a Senior Advisor of the campaign team of the Vice President, made this known during an interaction with journalists in Accra.
He said Vice President Mahama would be able to appeal to floating voters and unite Ghanaians.
"Vice President Mahama would be able to sweep the votes of the youth and the Zongo communities.
Dr Tuffour noted that the Vice President is a likeable person, affable and approachable as well as quiet but solid on the ground. "I sat down to analyse to know that Alhaji Mahama is the best man for the job."
He said the Vice President had a vision for the eradication of hunger and poverty and to better the lot of Ghanaians. Reacting to media reports that he had resigned from the Vice President's campaign team, he said his decision to peach camp with Alhaji Mahama was personal and irrevocable.
He said though he had all the qualifications to run as a flagbearer of the NPP, he was moved by the spirit to serve Ghana to throw his weight behind Vice President Mahama, whom he said was solid to get the work done.
" I am strengthened by my support for him," he said in reaction to the reports, which he described as false. Dr Tuffour said a point he made to a journalist that as a principle, he would not use productive hours of Monday to Friday to do politics was misconstrued to mean he had quit the Vice President's campaign team.
He said he argued and fought against Ministers who were using their office to campaign for their presidential bid, hence the need for him to go by the same principle. " I must spend my working hours feeding school children. 16 Oct. 07
