As Ghana prepares to mark the one year anniversary of late vice president, Aliu Mahama, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has extolled the virtues of the late politician, describing him as a man of principles.
He made this known when a delegation from the one year planning committee, led by Nsawam MP, O.B Amoah, paid a courtesy call on him at his Fadama residence.
The visit was to officially inform him about the first anniversary celebration of the death of Alhaji Aliu Mahama.
According to the national chief Imam, Aliu Mahama was a disciplined statesman.
“He will forever be remembered for his high sense of discipline that led him to launch a national campaign for greater discipline when he was vice president,” he noted.
The delegation later paid a courtesy call on former President John Kufuor and former chief of staff, kwadwo Mpiani.
A programme of activities has been planned for November 9 to November 17.
It includes a health walk, showing of a documentary on the late Vice President’s life, a public lecture and launch of the Aliu Mahama Foundation as well as the holding of Christian and Moslem prayers, a remembrance football match and grand Adua in Tamale.
The committee appealed to the public and well-wishers to participate in the programme to bring honour and dignity to the name of the former vice president.
The late vice president died on November 16, 2012 at the Korle bu teaching hospital after an illness.
