Yendi (N/R), April 25, GNA - The Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, on Monday visited Yendi to pay his last respect to the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II, the Overlord of Dagbon, who was buried a fortnight ago.
The visit was also for the Vice President to pay homage to the new regent of the late King, Kampakuya-Na Abdulai Yakubu Andani. The Vice President, accompanied by J.H. Mensah, the Senior Minister, Mr. C.K.Tedam, a Member of the Council of State, Mr Issah Ketekewu, the Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface, Northern Regional Minister and Regional ministers of Upper East and Upper West as well as some District Chief executives donated 10 bags each of rice and maize, one bull and 10 million cedis to the bereaved family.
Vice President Mahama called on people of Dagbon to eschew lies and disrespect for one another to bring total calm, peace and understanding to the Dagbon Kingdom.
He said in the absence of development, no nation could see meaningful development and stressed the need for Dagombas to see one another as one family with a common destiny to enhance development of the area.
Kampakuya-Na Abdulai Yakubu Andani commended the government for setting up the Committee of Eminent Kings headed by Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11 who brought Dagbon together by charting a roadmap for peaceful resolution of the Dagbon conflict.
Kampakuya-Na Yakubu Andani thanked the Vice President and all those who contributed in diverse ways to calm tempers before, during and after the burial of his father and during his enskinnment.
He, however, appealed to the government to expedite action in identifying and arresting the murderers of Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II and bring them to book for the rule of law to prevail in the country. The regent repeated his call on all sons of Dagbon either Abudu or Andani to forget about the past and join hands to seek lasting peace for the great Kingdom to enhance development. 25 April 06
