The National Organiser of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Richard Botwe, has expressed his satisfaction with the Electoral Commission's decision to disqualify Philip Appiah Kubi, popularly known as Roman Fada, from contesting the 2024 elections.
He disclosed that while some party executives initially opposed participating in the elections to honour the late founder and leader of GFP, Akua Donkor, the General Secretary went ahead and filed nominations for the party.
According to a report by onuaonline.com, he made these remarks during an interview on TV3 on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
He stated that all party executives were happy with the disqualification, as it aligned with the party's decision made after the passing of Akua Donkor.
"All the party executives are happy about the disqualification concerning the decision we took when we lost our late mother," he indicated.
He clarified that the GFP wanted to honour their late mother, Akua Donkor and that their primary focus was to ensure a well-structured party before entering the electoral race.
"Unfortunately, the General Secretary could not understand and took Appiah Kubi, and they filed for nominations.
"We want to honour our late mother, Akua Donkor," he noted.
During an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, the Electoral Commission's Chairperson, Jean Mensa, explained that Roman Fada's disqualification was due to errors and irregularities in his nomination documents. Additionally, the Commission decided not to reorder ballot positions to avoid delays and extra costs.
