Starting June 17 of this year, all children in basic schools across the country will begin to receive Ghana Card identity numbers.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), made this announcement in Dambai during his visit to the Oti region.

He explained that the government has facilitated this initiative through a collaborative effort with the Ghana Health Service, the Births and Deaths Registry (BDR), the Ghana Statistical Service, and the National Identification Authority (NIA).

This integration of systems will ensure that every child aged 0-13 years in Ghana is immediately provided with a unique identity number, linking them to their parents' identities and securing their place within the national identity framework.

"The Ghana Card is not just an ID; it's also a promise to our children of a future where their identity and rights are recognized from birth," Dr. Bawumia stated.

"It is a testament to our commitment to building an effective, efficient, responsive, and accountable public sector that meets the needs of the Ghanaian citizenry," he added.

Following the announcement, Dr. Bawumia continued his tour to the Dambai Saturday market, where he received a warm welcome from the market women. Other traders and residents also rushed to catch a glimpse and exchange pleasantries with him.

This interaction delayed Dr. Bawumia and his campaign team by nearly an hour before they could reach the Presbyterian Church, where he was scheduled to meet with 'Youth Connect' participants.

The campaign tour has been characterized by vibrant hospitality, with supporters expressing their confidence in Dr. Bawumia's leadership and the NPP's ability to guide the country toward greater success.
