Former President Jerry John Rawlings has finally agreed to submit himself for police investigations in the case in which and his bodyguard are alleged to have assaulted a man at Ashiaman.

Rawlings who turned down two police investigation in a spate of three days finally met with the Inspector General of Police and other senior police officers at the Police headquarters in Accra to discuss the allegations that has dominated the front pages in the last week.

Rawlings and his bodyguard have been accused by a 28-year-old Adamu Mansu Seini of assaulting him when the ex-President went round to observe the voters registration exercise of March 25 2004.

Attempts by the Criminal Investigations Department under the leadership of David Appeatu drew blank as Rawlings flatly refused to attend saying they were biased.

After Friday?s meeting, the IGP Nana Owusu Nsiah appointed the deputy director of the CID ACP P.K Ampewuah to investigate the matter in a ?professional manner?

Rawlings told newsmen after meeting the IGP that he had would co-operate fully with the police. But he repeated that he had simply refused to corporate with the CID ?under Appeatu or whatever his name is? because they are selective in which cases to investigate.
