Kumasi, Nov. 19, GNA - A Kumasi circuit court on Tuesday granted a 27-year-old security officer at the Kumasi Abattoir 20 million cedis bail for allegedly stealing five sheep. Mutala Musah pleaded not guilty to the charge and will re-appear on November 25.
Police Chief Inspector Kwabena Kusi told the court, presided over by Mr R.M. Kogyapowah that on November 14, this year, Alhaji Salia Adams, the complainant, who is a trader, took his sheep to grazing near the Airport Roundabout.
He said, as was his practice, the complainant left the sheep there and went home.
Chief Inspector Kusi said the complainant was in the house when someone marched the accused to the house with the story that Musah wanted to load the sheep into a taxi.
The prosecution said the witness told the complainant that when Musah was confronted, he claimed to be his (complainant's) son but that this did not convince the people around so he (witness) was asked to escort the accused to the house of the complainant to verify the truth or otherwise of his claim.
He said, however, that the complainant denied knowing the accused and that he did not send him to drive the animal's home and so Musah was sent to the Asawasi police station. Chief Inspector Kusi said the accused admitted the story of the witness in his statement but explained that his intention was to send the sheep to their owner.
