The Reliance for Restoration of Civil Rights has declared its intension to stage a protest on August 11, 2024.

The protest aims to educate citizens on the importance of demanding accountability from public officials.

This was contained in a statement read by the convener of Alliance for Restoration of Civil Rights, William Kofi Yirenkyi.

His outlined some of the reasons for their intended protest as, "The release of critical information that has been unlawfully withheld by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), despite directive by the Right to Information Commission; Transparency in this regard is vital for protecting the rights of victims and ensuring accountability within the Ghana police Service; The resignation of the IGP if reforms are not initiated within seven days, following the protest, failure to comply will result in legal actions and further petitions of impeachment to the highest office of the land, including the president.

"To push for comprehensive reforms within the Ghana Police Service aim at improving professionalism, transparency and accountability, this includes advocating for training, stricter oversight and the establishment of independent bodies to investigate complaint against police officers.”

He further said that the protest aims "To increase public awareness of the systematic issues within the Ghana Police Service and the broader implication for civil and democracy in Ghana. Through this protest, we aim to educate citizens about their rights and the importance of holding police offices accountable to the people, to confront and dismantle the culture of impunity that has allowed the police officers to act without fear of consequences."

The convener further urged Ghanaians, Civil Society Organisations, and members of the international community to join the protest to make it clear that injustice is a threat.
