The Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC)
The Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC), a regulatory body under the Ministry Of Health, has started its operations in Tamale.
The office was set up to minimise the cost incurred and the distance covered by Allied Health Professionals, in accessing services of the Council, and to serve Northern Ghana until the emergence of other branches.
Dr Samuel Yaw Opoku, Registrar of Allied Health Professions Council, said the Council since 2013, has provided services across the country and needed to extend its activities to other parts of the country to prevent clients from travelling to Accra to access its service.
He stated that there were plans to start operations in eight other regions by the end of this year, and added that the Council would later establish branch offices in all regional capitals.
AHPC is mandated to regulate the training and practice of Allied Health Professions as well as grant accreditations and certifications to these professions.
Dr Opoku said the operations in Tamale would help regulate quack practitioners in the region by ensuring that only qualified and certified professionals operated within the sector to provide the highest services as mandated by the Council.
Miss Emma Wiafe, Public Relations Officer at the AHPC, indicated that not every service provided at the Headquarters of the Council as mandated by law could be replicated at the newly opened office, and said the Tamale office would serve as a liaison between professionals and the headquarters by gathering information and requests for the head office to act on.
