Allow missions to sponsor teachers - Teachers tell government

New Edubiase (Ash), Dec 30, GNA - The New Edubiase parish executives of the Parish Associations of Catholic Teachers (PACT) in the Adansi South district of Ashanti have implored the government to allow the various religious bodies, which have educational units to sponsor teacher trainees.

This, the association thinks, would bring about a fair distribution of teachers in government as well as mission schools. They made the suggestion during a call on Mr Francis Kudjoe Dorpenyoh, the Adansi South District Chief Executive at New Edubiase to congratulate him on his appointment.

Mr William Boakye Baafi, PACT Co-ordinator for New Edubiase branch who led the delegation to the DCE, said since only the district assemblies are allowed to sponsor teacher trainees, some of the basic schools of the various missions do not get teachers thereby rendering their educational units ineffective.

He appealed to the assembly to organise counseling and information services for the final-year pupils in all junior secondary schools in the district on how to answer questions at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Mr Boakye-Baafi said this would help stem the poor performance of pupils at the BECE.

The DCE commended the executive of the association for their efforts to bring all Catholic teachers in the area together and entreated them to let their lifestyles reflect their objective for forming the association.

Mr Dorpenyoh advised them to work hard to uplift the educational image of the district and also promised the assembly's support for the association.

Madam Mary Baiden, the assistant secretary to the association, presented its constitution and a calendar to the DCE.
